Casino Royale Opening Credits
I loved these when I first saw the credits at the cinema. I think its really clever the way it builds up and evolves one action, hence setting the tone of the film to come. Although these received very mixed opinions at the time, I personally think that it works well with the style of the james bond films. I understand that it is not in the same format or even feel as those which preceded the other films. However, I admire the fact they are not simply imitating the initial ones, with film remakes you always have to add a modern twist or there is no point in doing it in the first place. I think the Casino Royale trailers work well at their two primary functions getting people to watch instead of simply talking through them and also setting the fight feel for the movie.

Doing the credits for a bond movie must be such an honour and scary job, the pressure. The credits for this were great especially on the big screen but the way the four card symbols were used throughout for different things was clever, especially the shooting of a red men and the hearts pouring out, so simple and effective. Also the song adds a great deal to the viewing, it doesnt overpower whats going on but the words talk about the general bond story.
I think this is a really refreshing take on the bond style of credits. Although credits for the past few bond films have been good I was beginning to get bored of the different combinations of the silhouettes of women. It is interesting to see a proper concept based set of credits rather than ones that simply try to recreate the atmosphere of the film or concisely retell the story. This set of credits manages to do all three in a creative and interesting way which is enhanced by the edgier song used than the previous power songs based around the bond theme tune.
Yes, I can whole heartely agree with you there. I was shocked at first, but then overwhelmed by joy when I say this the first time. It's stating something important - this is the new Bond. Forget the skinny and half dressed babes. That is soooo yesterday.
I have to say I was very impressed by these credits too (so much so I wrote a blog entry on them too)! But like you said, they signify a new era for James Bond, and these titles state that intention from the very start. Great concept and execution.
